Example of an earthquake recorded at Longmire in Mount Rainier National Park that occurred on November 9, 1998 at 05:38:45 UT in the Banda Sea (west of New Guinea in the southwest Pacific). The earthquake had a "Surface Wave" magnitude of 7.0. A magnitude 6.2 foreshock occurred 8 minutes earlier and is also seen but not as prominently. Note that the recorded ground motion at Longmire is visible for four hours!
