Host a Seismograph!

Would you like to have a digital seismograph in your school (or other Internet-connected facility)? Would you like to view real-time ground motion on the Web from your facilities?

We are currently looking for locations for the next batch of seismographs to be installed in the summer of 2001. Basically we are just looking for places that have a decent Internet connection and where the floor is "slab on grade", that is, the floor has dirt underneath it. Typically, the seismographs are installed in out-of-the-way locations such as wiring closets (also called MDF's, or server closets). We typically install the stations in public or corporate facilities, such as elementary schools or local county facilities (road maintenance sheds, sheriff precincts).

So how do I host a seismograph?

Easy. Just give us a call, 206-543-9024, send us e-mail ( george@ess.washington.edu), or fill out this form. We will come out to your site and have a look around and take some notes and pictures. We will log this information in our database and make the final site selection in late spring. Seismographs will be installed this summer.

Some of you more technical types will first want to review our brief documentation on technical aspects of the seismograph installation.

We're looking forward to hearing from you!

Below is a seismograph system located at a Pierce County Sheriff Precinct.
