There are two sources of information for this event. Milne's catalog states: "An earthquake was felt slightly in Vancouver, New Westminster, and Aldergrove." The Chilliwack Progress (from the WPPSS, Preliminary Safety Analysis Report, Ammendment 23, WPPSS Nuclear Project No. 1, 1300 MW Nuclear Power Plant, Vol. 2A) says: "A mild shock of earthquake visited the valley last evening shortly after eight o'clock. There was a loud rumbling and four or five distinct vibrations were felt. Buildings were slightly shaken and loose articles rattled as with a heavy jar. The shock was noticed by large numbers of people throughout the valley."

The Oregonian is the basis of information for this earthquake. It states: " St. Helens, OR., April 27--Two very marked and distinct earthquake shocks were felt here at 2:30 this morning. Doors and windows rattled as if in a severe wind storm, yet there was hardly a breath of air stirring at the time. The shocks were about half a minute apart." Berg and Baker, Woodward Clyde, and the WPPSS catalog give an incorrect month (9) for this event; probably due to a typographical error.

The preferred location and magnitude of this event are from the dissertation of G.C. Rogers. Although quite widely felt in Seattle and south Puget Sound, there was no apparent damage and no aftershocks were reported.
The Seattle Post Intelligencer reports this earthquake felt in Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, and Aberdeen. In Tacoma "Houses were rocked and crockery rattled and in some cases plaster fell off the walls." In Aberdeen: "Some persons reported that clocks were stopped and dishes on the table rattled.". The Oregonian reports that in Aberdeen "houses were shaken and the inmates ran out badly frightened", and in Olympia " Buildings were shaken so that occupants ran into the streets in alarm." The earthquake was reported *not* felt in Portland, Port Townsend, Whatcom County, and Everett.

This event was well felt from Seattle to Portland and Astoria, especially on higher floors. Although there are several newspaper articles on this event, it has only been cataloged by Woodward-Clyde. Though no significant damage was reported, this event is likely be magnitude 5 or slightly larger.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer states: "An earthquake was distinctly felt in Seattle ... most perceptible in the upper stories of some of the higher buildings. Several observers on the sixth floor of the Lumber Exchange were alarmed at the vibrations in that structure... One man ... counted five very distinct vibrations and estimated that they followed each other at from one to two seconds apart. The time at which the shock first appeared was sixteen minutes before 4 o’clock, the waving undulations lasting fully ten seconds." The report from Tacoma mentions "windows and crockery jarred and tipped about."
The Portland Oregonian reports the earthquake felt in Everett, Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Chehalis, and Astoria, and says of Portland: "Just at 19 minutes before 4 o'clock, a tremor shook the earth. People in the high office buildings and those lying or sitting still felt it distinctly. Those walking on the street did not notice the shock... A gentle little tremor in some parts of the city, but it was strong enough to move the pictures on the wall in others. In the Meier residence at Twelfth and Clay streets, the framed pictures were seen to swing upon the walls and the building, substantial as it is, rattled all over. Here the shock lasted fully half a minute"
The earthquake was also reported felt in Astoria, Oregon and at South Bend, Menlo, and LaCenter Washington. Several sources report a time of 4:20 for strong shaking in South Bend, but this is almost certainly the same event. The date of the main shock suggested by the report in the Tacoma Semi-weekly News is unclear.

There appear to be no aftershocks.. One earlier shock, on the morning of Sept. 5, was reported felt at Castle Rock in the Seattle PI and Tacoma Daily news.

Landslide or Rockfall This is an account of earthquakes and avalanches on Mount Rainier. No account was found in a search of the Tacoma Daily News. Townley and Allen say: "Hundreds of acres of rocks and ice, including a number of glaciers, were broken loose and hurled two miles down the mountain side into the valleys below.... witnessed by State Senator Ruth of Olympia and George E. Huggins ...They were startled ... by the earthquake shock, followed by reports similar to the firing of heavy artillery. These gradually increased to a great roar. .... they observed that the southeastern peak had broken off and was tumbling down the slope. Slides continued all day. In the afternoon there was a broad black streak of bare rock where before ice and snow had been piled hundreds of feet high. There is probably some exaggeration in this account. An earthquake was felt at several points throughout Eastern Washington Tuesday night.-Reid's Scrapbook, 2, 29."

It appeared in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer on 3/20/1904, following a widely felt earthquake on 3/16. The particulars for this event are: "Slight shocks are often felt in the eastern part of the state and are somewhat common on Lake Chelan. One was felt at Bear Creek on this lake on the 5th of this month."

This earthquake is listed in all catalogs, and well supported by newspaper articles. It appears that is was felt most strongly in the Puget lowland from Seattle to Belllingham. Townley and Allen cite a report of extreme intensities and flooding on the Olympic Peninsula, but no evidence has been found to support this. The location, magnitude and felt area cited here are from the Ph.D. Thesis of G.C. Rogers.
From the Port Townsend Daily Leader: "Victoria, March 16.--Special--An earthquake shock was felt here slightly at about 8:20 o'clock this evening. A great many were not aware of it, but the majority seem to have noticed a slight shock. There was nothing worth, remarking about.
Port Angeles, March 16.--Special--At 8:20 o'clock this evening an earthquake shock was generally felt throughout this city but it was not heavy. It was noted however, by everyone.
Seattle, March 16.--Special--Two severe vibrations were felt here about 8:19 this evening lasting for several seconds. During the time buildings were shaken and windows and lamps swayed as if they had been taken hold of and shaken. The shock was the strongest felt in this city in many years and caused a great deal of excitement. People rushed from buildings into the streets and in places amounted almost to a panic. It is thought that no damage resulted to property although it is impossible to tell at this time.
Leland, March 16.--Special--A heavy earthquake shock was felt here this evening at twenty minutes past eight o'clock, the vibrations lasting several seconds, and during the time rattled things in a lively manner.
Everett, March 16.--Special--An earthquake shock was felt here tonight at a few minutes past eight o'clock. It was generally noticed.
Snohomish, March 16.--Special--At 8:20 o'clock tonight earthquake shocks were felt in this city. The intensity was not great but the tremors were remarked on by everyone.
Bellingham, March 16.--Special--Nothing in the nature of an earthquake shock was felt here this evening.
North Yakima, March 16.--Special--This city has experienced nothing in the nature of earthquake tremblings tonight.
Portland, March 16.--There has been no earthquake shock noted here today or tonight.
It would seem that Port Townsend to Seattle is the direct track of the shock felt here last evening and that between these places it was perhaps the most severely felt."

From the Oregonian: "Caused Panic at Bellingham. -Bellingham, Wash., March 16.-- A heavy earthquake shock was felt here tonight at 8 o'clock. Pictures were shaken from the wall, dishes broken and clocks stopped. The shock was severe enough to cause many to rush from their houses into the streets."

From the Kitsap County Herald (Poulsbo): "A slight shock of earthquake was felt Wednesday evening about o'clock. Some did not notice it but some claim it was quite hard."

From the Everett Daily Herald: "Covered Sound Country - According to telegraphic reports the earthquake was confined entirely to the Puget Sound country. It was felt as far south as Olympia but did not reach Portland. The vibrations were felt in Victoria and Vancouver but not as distinctly as they were here. Everett and Seattle seem to be at the center of the disturbance, although Tacoma and Olympia were startled. It was not felt east of the mountains, but reports from various points in the Cascades indicate that it was heavier there than on the Sound."

From the Yakima Democrat; "a slight jarring sensation."

Milne says: " In Victoria clocks were stopped, but no serious damage was reported. The tremor was not felt at Nanaimo."

This is the fourth of four earthquakes on this date that were distinctly felt in a very limited area of downtown Portland. The Oregonian says: "The first disturbance was felt in the morning, when two earthquake waves passed across the city.... In the afternoon two more waves were distinctly felt ....shaking the buildings so perceptibly that it was noticed plainly by persons on the ground floor. In some places movable furniture was shifted slightly, windows were rattled, and clerks seated at their desks felt themselves swayed to and fro. The shocks were so distinct that no room for doubt as to their nature was left. In the tall buildings of the down-town district the effects of the earthquake were more apparent. Persons in the upper stories of buildings along Third and Fourth streets, from the Courthouse noticed each of the four waves. The buildings swayed visibly, and the shaking [awoke people?] sleeping in the upper floors.
The disturbance apparently only affected an area between Fourth and Second streets across the city, for no indications of the waves were noticed anywhere else. ...
The first shock was observed about 10:25 in the morning and the second about 11:40. All was quiet then until about 2 pm, when the third wave passed along the same route followed by the other two. About a half hour later the fourth shock was felt. The last shock was the most severe one, according to all reports."

Known only from the transcribed article from the Chilliwack Progress included in the WPPSS documents: "Nanaimo, B.C. ... Two severe shocks of earthquake following each other in quick succession were felt here at 11:25 last night. The first shock was preceded by the low, rumbling roar, terminating in a sharp shock of 10 seconds duration. Buildings trembled, whole dishes rattled and tumbled to the floor in every house. The shock was the most severe ever experienced here... the night operator at the CPR telegraph office was... almost wrenched from his chair by the force of the shock."

Chelan/Lakeside - a largest of series of small shocks (most reported without specific times). The US Weather Bureau Report says "A series of earthquakes occurred on the 17th; first at 6:00 p.m., second at 11:30 p.m., severe, followed at intervals of 10 to 15 minutes with three other mild shocks." Dates in Woodward-Clyde catalog and WPPSS lists vary from 10/16 to 10/19.. The Seattle PI of Oct. 18, 1905 says: " Chelan, October 17 - Shocks like an earthquake occurred last night. The heaviest, with loud rumbling, occurred at 11 o'clock. Houses were badly shaken but no damage was done." The Washington Standard was searched, but no account was found.

Northeastern Washington. The Weather Bureau Report reports the event being felt in: "Colville, Conconully, Danville, Loomis, Merritt, Republic, Twisp ." Earthquake History of the US gives this: "Three shocks felt from south boundary of Spokane County, Wash., to a point north of Bradshaw, British Columbia. Felt at Colville, Davenport, and Grand Forks. Plaster fell at Nelson, British Columbia." The single newspaper article found (from Seattle) says that the earthquake was felt in many parts of Spokane, but did no damage. The BSSA is cited, but that article is not included here. Additional newspapers from British Columbia, Spokane, and other parts of eastern Washington could be researched.

San Francisco 1906 earthquake. Felt in southern Oregon - Roseburg, Grant's Pass, Marshfield, Paisley, Ashland, Rogue River Valley, Bandon, Glendale, Eugene, Kerby, Williams, Port Orford,, Medford, Merrill, Drew's Valley, and Klamath Falls. Smith says "'Paisley is built on river ground at the edge of the Chewancan Marsh. Merrill lies in or near Langell's Valley, by Lost River, which here sinks and flows through swampy land in several places.' From 'Report of California Earthquake Commission,' Vol. I, Pt. 1, p. 163."

The Seattle P.I. reports that the earthquake was felt by the lighthouse keeper at Westport, WA, and that 5-foot waves rolled up the Wishkah River, and a heavy swell was reported offshore although there was no wind. It also reports: "About 6 o'clock yesterday morning Lake Washington on the west shore was agitated so violently that house boats, floats and bathhouses were jammed and tossed about like leaves on the water. Beyond breaking a few moorings and causing a small-sized fright, no damage."
