Comparative cross-sections of seismicity beneath
Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier, 1981-1996. There
is no vertical exageration. Locations extend
only up to 1.1 km above sea level, an artifact
caused by our location program which treats the
surface of the earth as the average elevation of all
seismograph stations used to locate events at each volcano.
Each cross-section includes only earthquakes located directly
beneath each volcano.
